CHRISTMAS PROGRAMMING ON KUWS RADIO

A Holiday Mix of Old and New
KUWS Radio 91.3 FM in
Superior & 102.9 FM Ashland, will present a
special block of Christmas programs beginning at
5:00 p.m. on December 23rd. The lineup will
include everything from radio drama to a
performance of The Messiah.
The regularly scheduled
Monday night programs including Mind Matters, On
Point, Computer Doc, and 91 Jazz Street will be
pre-empted by this special holiday programming.
At 5:00 pm, a
ghost of Christmas past will start the evening, as
Orson Wells and the Campbell's Soup Playhouse
present Dickens' classic A Christmas Carol. This
1944 recording features Lionel Barrymore as
"Scrooge," and is a true classic of the
season.
At 6:00 pm, Jack
and Lew and the whole Radio Superior gang will be
on hand for a repeat broadcast of Radio Superior
1938. The program features actual news reports
from December 24th 1938 along with appearances by
some of the most memorable Radio Superior
characters like "Uncle Bob." School
children from the Superior Schools helped make the
program and will have both speaking and singing
parts.
At 7:00 pm,
Musicians from UW-Superior take center stage with
a recording of a recent holiday concert at UWS.
The broadcast features the UWS Concert Choir under
the direction of Dr. Matthew Faerber
Then at 8:00 pm,
topping off the evening, KUWS will broadcast the
December 8, 2002 performance of Handel's Messiah
as performed by the Duluth Superior Symphony
Orchestra and Chorus under the direction of
Markand Thakar, and featuring soloists Patrice
Michaels (soprano), Tracy Watson (mezzo soprano),
local favorite William Bastian (tenor), and Leon
Williams (baritone).
We are very pleased that
we were able to work out an arrangement with the
Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra to present this
concert to our audience," said KUWS Station
Manager John Munson. "The Messiah is one of
the best known and most powerful choral and
orchestral works ever produced."

Department at the University of Wisconsin -
Superior and an affiliate of the Wisconsin Public
Radio Ideas Network.
